LOOK FOR WHAT'S MISSING

One of the easiest aspects of creative thinking to illustrate -- but the hardest to implement -- is to look for what is missing.

It's easy to illustrate because the wealth of America is built on that concept. Products and services come onto the American market because there is need for them.  The people who are clever enough to see a need before it arrives and prepare to fill that need are called entrepreneurs.  They are also called millionaires -- and many of them overnight millionaires.

But it isn't just the blockbuster ideas that do well; there are niche market products Today, more than ever, niche markets are growing in dominance because of the power of the Internet.  A decade ago, someone who sold antique door handles  had a limited clientele.  Their market was so small that they could not even afford to advertise. Unless a builder knew who they were, the house would have to settle for the mass produced model.

But with the Internet, the antique door handle merchant can advertise for a few hundred dollars a year. Better yet, buyers would come looking for the merchant rather than the other way around.
